Blake Shelton didn’t miss a beat as he threw shade at Jimmy Fallon‘s hosting style during a guest appearance on the talk show.
The 48-year-old country singer appeared on the NBC series on Tuesday where he discussed his brand new album, For Recreational Use Only.
But it wasn’t long before Blake delighted in taking a swipe at Jimmy, 50, over his seemingly fake excitement.
The awkward moment came as the artist revealed how singer Post Malone inspired him to make the new album.
‘I had the song with him,’ Blake began, referring to their hit, Pour Me A Beer. ‘You’ve been around him. I mean, you can’t be around that guy without having a good time, and he’s so excited about everything.’
He continued: ‘You guys are a lot alike now that I think about it.’
‘We are?’ a perplexed Jimmy asked.
Delivering the low blow, Blake then quipped: ‘Except, he’s genuine about his excitement.’

The country singer seemingly called Jimmy, 50, out for not being genuine
Jimmy took the dig in his stride though and laughed it off while the audience cringed.
‘Anyway, I was like man, what am I doing? I need to make a record. Like, he had me fired up again.’
‘I want him to hang out with us,’ Jimmy said, demonstrating that the comment had washed off his back. ‘Everyone loves him.’
He then grimaced and held his fist up to the camera.
The moment was shared far and wide on social media where viewers seemed divided over where they stood.
Siding with Jimmy, one user on Reddit said: ‘I know Fallon overdoes it, but it’s a talk show, it’s entertainment, it’s not genuine, we all know it’s pre-prepared and pre-approved, glorified marketing.
‘If you’re looking for depth and sincerity in a talk show, Tonight with Fallon is the wrong place, man.’
‘Damn that was actually a cheap shot,’ another said.

However, others sided with Blake.
Critiquing Jimmy’s persona, one said: ‘He’s too enthusiastic, all the time and it smacks of insincerity.’
‘Surprised to see people defending Fallon in here,’ another added.
‘Obviously fake enthusiasm is part of the gig, and hard hitting interview tactics aren’t, but being affable is basically Fallon’s entire shtick… When your one defining trait as a host and interviewer comes off wholly disingenuous, it makes people turn off.’
Meanwhile, a third added: ‘I’m scared to watch for fear of second-hand embarrassment.’
Despite the awkward moment, Blake’s appearance on Tuesday’s show marked his 10th time on the program – suggesting there isn’t too much bad blood after all.
Earlier this month, Blake opened up about his long-term relationship with Gwen Stefani, whom he’s been with for almost a decade.
